Churches of Scientology in Africa

New Scientology churches are on the horizon for Durban, Cape Town, Pretoria, Port Elizabeth and Johannesburg in South Africa and Bulawayo and Harare in Zimbabwe — part of an international Scientology strategy to increase service to Scientologists and the community.

Artists’ renderings of these new churches give an idea of the size and quality of the buildings.

In addition to the many services the churches will provide for Scientologists, they well also offer courses and spiritual counseling for people new to Scientology and for non-Scientologists. An example of the services these churches will be expanding is the Scientology Volunteer Ministers program. South African Scientology churches already man two
Scientology Volunteer Ministers Goodwill Tours, one currently in Ghana and the other in Zambia. These tours offer courses, workshops and seminars based on the Scientology Handbook, which give people practical, effective tools for better living. And the new churches will make it possible to greatly expand the Scientology Volunteer Ministers program throughout southern Africa.

In the 1960s, L. Ron Hubbard lived and worked for many months in South Africa and Zimbabwe, then known as Rhodesia. He carried on his research and worked to accomplish social reforms for the people of these two countries. His respect and love for the countries and their people led him to write, “from Southern Africa will spring the next great civilization on this planet.” And the staff and members of the Scientology churches of South Africa and Zimbabwe are determined to make this come true.

Scientology Volunteer Ministers arrive at Joinville, Brazil

There was music and dancing into the night when the Scientology Volunteer Ministers South America Goodwill Tour opened its tent in Joinville, the largest city in Santa Catarina in the Southern Region of Brazil.

In addressing the crowd that gathered in front of the bright yellow tent of the Goodwill Tour, the Second in Command of the SAMU (System of Attendance Emergency Unit), said “It is a pleasure to be here and to know the Scientology Volunteer Ministers. The first time I saw them I knew they were special people. They asked us to have a location for their tent so they could help us. This was unusual. Normally we help others—no one offers to help us! I experienced their technology and I loved it and I learned how to use it. And I am using it. It is good to know that there are people like the Scientology Volunteer Ministers. While we help the person’s body, the Scientology Volunteer Ministers help him or her as a person. That is very, very important. It is very good to have them here. We need them with us and I urge everyone to take advantage of this opportunity.”

These sentiments were echoed by the chief doctor of the government of Joinville, who said, “I have the pleasure to know the Scientology Volunteer Ministers and the opportunity to work with them. I know my life is better because of this. I have gained the ability to organize and know how to achieve my goals. With the tools they teach, it is incredible how easy it is to create miracles in the lives of others. Here in the tent you can learn very simple technology to improve your life. For example, those who have had problems with relationships, problems with learning, problems with communication, those who want to help somebody but don’t know how.”

These dignitaries cut the ribbon signaling the opening of the tent and people poured into the tent to find out more.

The Musical group, which was only going to play before the grand opening, continued through the night, even donning Scientology Volunteer Ministers t-shirts for part of their performance.

And those who are taking advantage of the training, seminars and workshops they offer, based on the works of L. Ron Hubbard, are proving the kind words of the speakers to be true—they are delighted to learn how they can help others and they share their wins of seeing others get so much better just by their using the simple things they have learned.
